QUESTION:I’ve been told that policemen and firemen who retire from one city can go to work for a different city,county, or the federal government (Homeland Security Administration) and get both paychecks?

ANSWER from Marcia Fritz: “They can work for another agency without constraints if the pension fund for that new agency is not the same one for his/her previous employer. For example, a firefighter can retire from Sac Metro Fire District, which uses CalPERS for its pension fund, and go to work full time for the city of Los Angeles, which uses LACERA for its pension fund.”
